Agrarian Studies Group

The Agrarian Studies Group is a network of students and scholars interested in interdisciplinary approaches to understanding rural life and society, both past and present. Each semester we choose a new field of interest, which we discuss in regular informal seminars at the Department of Economic and Social History. Please register for the Department’s newsletter to receive the invitations to our seminars. For the range of topics we have discussed so far see the current poster below and the archive.

In addition to the regular seminars we organise public lectures and workshops. In 2017 we invited Chris Hann to present his most recent research in the field of economic anthropology. The guest speaker of the second Agrarian Studies Lecture in 2019 was Cormac Ó Gráda, economic historian and specialist in field of famine studies from the University of Dublin.
